Reading a held peaceful #EndSars protest in the Forbury Gardens on Sunday 25th October 2020. The protest was against the brutality action taken by the Sars in Lagos Nigeria. Reading Protesters is calling for the killing to stop in Nigeria. Protestors also held a ‘night vigil’ at 5pm of the same evening in Forbury Gardens.
The Nigerian security forces opened fire on hundreds of protesters in Lagos. Rallies against police brutality continued in defiance of a 24-hour curfew imposed by the government earlier that week.
· Social media videos disclosed protesters carrying bloodied Nigerian flags pleading with security officials to allow medics to treat victims.
· Protesters were seen struggling to remove shrapnel from injured protesters and in one case failing to resuscitate a casualty.
The Guardian reported “In the past few days we have documented escalating violence and coordinated attacks against peaceful #EndSars protesters,” Amnesty International Nigeria said in a statement yesterday, adding police had used “excessive force” leading to many casualties.
· In response to widespread demonstrations, which are not common in Nigeria, the government has dissolved the unit and adopted numerous measures, including judicial panels to investigate Sars abuses and compensation for victims
