This is a brilliant film ! And yes there were 'black cowboys' how exciting is that ! How handsome does the group look ? Not forgetting the Queen right in amongst them !

The Plot

In this drama inspired by the real-life Fletcher Street Stables, 15-year-old Cole is taken to live with his estranged father Harp in North Philadelphia. There he discovers the city's vibrant urban cowboy subculture, which has existed for more than 100 years providing a safe haven for the neighbourhood despite the surrounding poverty, violence, and encroachment of gentrification.

In the 1870s and 1880s, there was as many as 25 percent of the 35,000 cowboys in the Old West who were black cowboys. Most were freed slaves who headed west to find their fortunes among cattle ranches and rows of crops.
As slaves, blacks were in charge of crops and took care of cows for their white owners, and the availability of land presented a new opportunity for many to escape the South.
