Windrush Documentation & Compensation Schemes

Updated: Mar 18, 2022

Event - Saturday 26th March 2022

Dear Members and Friends

As you already know, SVGA Reading is leading a consortium of nine local groups to promote the Home Office Documentation & Compensation schemes. We have received over £24,000 from the Home Office to organise events and activities to promote the two schemes.  We will be launching the project on Saturday 26 March at The Atrium (formerly Ibis Club) in Scours Lane RG30 6AY.  We extend a very warm invitation for you, your family, and friends to attend to support the event and spread the word to others who might need our help. Please see the attached flyer.

The purpose of the schemes is to help people who have settled in the UK before 1989 but do not have the documents to prove it, to apply for the right to live and work here legally.  Anyone who arrived in the UK from a Commonwealth country before 1973 will, in addition, be eligible to apply for British citizenship – free of charge.  And if they have suffered loss as a result of not being able to prove their right to live here, they may be eligible for compensation.

Please visit our website www.svgareading.org.uk/WINDRUSH for some very useful information about the project.

Thank you and we look forward to seeing you at The Atrium on Saturday 26 March at 4.00pm.

Kind regards

Kemme Spence
