READING CARNIVAL ZOOM MEETING UPDATE

READING CARNIVAL ZOOM MEETING UPDATE

The Reading Carnival Zoom meeting hosted by RCE Community News went well. Erma Dyall, the Chairperson for the Reading Carnival Committee was also present at the meeting. The following topics were spoken about and ideas were bounced around using the guidelines presented by the Reading Borough Council who revoked Reading Carnival licence over safety fears.

SAFETY MEASURES

· The matter of the future of the Reading Carnival 2021/2021 and the safety measures needed to ensure the future of the Reading Carnival and its continuation.

· The concerns of the policing of the carnival itself.

· The Reading Carnival being cordoned off for future events.

CRIME

· The discussion of the ‘crime statistics’ of the Reading Carnival.

A quick research by myself revealed that over the 40 years of the carnival there has been almost 0% crime over the time frame in comparison to the Reading Festival which revealed ‘firearms and rape’ as part of the criminal behaviours from 2012 – 2017. How do I know this; I could not find statistics for Reading Carnival during the same period.

RECRUITMENT OF NEW COMMITTEE MEMBERS FOR THE READING CARNIVAL COMMITTEE.

· Recruitment of new members to join the Reading Carnival Committee Fresh members of the community are required.

Erma is recruiting new members for the Reading Carnival Committee and has numerous job roles available. If you are interested in being a part of the new Reading Carnival Committee, please contact Erma who will provide you with further information.
