Railway Station Ticket Office closures: I'm not sure if this has been mentioned before, but views are being invited on a proposal to close ticket offices and deploy their staff around the station: https://www.gwr.com/haveyoursay - with passengers having to buy their own tickets.
In the case of Tilehurst Station, in the last financial year the office sold 18,030 tickets, with 31,370 being bought at the machine (when it was working).
The member of staff will "move closerto customers in other locations at the station to support and assist with ticket purchases". Which won't be much fun for them when it's raining or freezing.
Whether it will mean much longer queues at the machine remains to be seen.
It's unfortunate that both down and up trains arrive at much the same time, meaning that outside the rush hours there's a flurry of activity for a few minutes very half-hour.
