NEWS from PACT – 30th March 2022:

Can you complete a Marathon in May for PACT?

26.2 miles in 31 days – Your Challenge, Your Way!

ADOPTION and family support charity Parents And Children Together (PACT) is asking people to complete a marathon in a month in support of its work.

Marathon in May challenges you to complete a total of 26.2 miles over the 31 days in May. You can run, walk, cycle or wheel the miles and can cover the distance either individually or together as a family or group of colleagues or friends.

All the proceeds will be used to help PACT’s work building and strengthening families. The charity supports families across the south east and beyond through adoption services, adoptive family support, Alana House women’s community project and Bounce Back 4 Kids domestic abuse recovery programme.

Natausha van Vliet, Chief Executive of PACT, said: “We launched Marathon in May in 2018 and have had so many PACT families, staff and supporters taking part and raising funds for our work.

“For the last two years we developed a more lockdown-friendly challenge called Move Every Day in May but this year, by popular demand, we are bringing back Marathon in May! It’s an easy and fun way in which people of all ages and abilities can support our work – I hope many more people take on the challenge this year!”

PACT’s Fundraising Manager Lina Artunduaga added: “The really great thing about Marathon in May is you can complete the challenge however you would like, whether it’s walking a mile a day, or running or cycling a few miles every weekend. It’s perfect for anyone who has ever wanted to do a marathon but maybe not all in one go, and ideal for families or colleagues who can take part together to share the distance.

“We’re all really excited Marathon in May is back – and can’t wait to get going covering those miles! Do join us if you can, and good luck to all those who have already signed up.”

It costs £15 per adult to register, which includes a medal and a chart to track your progress. Children taking part alongside a registered adult can take part for free but extra medals can be ordered for £2.50. There are discounts for people taking part in teams.

Participants can also choose to further support PACT’s work by getting sponsored to complete their challenge.

This year PACT is inviting schools and youth organisations such as Brownies, Guides and Scouts to take part in Marathon in May. Classes, year groups or teams can compete against each other to see who can do the most miles, or work together as a school or pack.
